Cheaper airport costs 'may increase travel to Bulgaria'

Airports are resisting the urge to raise base prices during the economic downturn, a sector specialist asserts, which may lead to more people travelling to stay in property in
Bulgaria.
Olivier Jankovec, director general at Airports Council International Europe, says many hubs on the continent, such as
Sofia airport, are "tightening their belts" to cope with the global recession.
However, the majority are refusing to raise their charges, he states, which may raise the appeal of travelling to stay in property in Bulgaria.
"In many ways, airports keep subsidising airlines by allowing them to use the infrastructure at a fraction of the costs involved," Mr Jankovec explains.
People travelling to stay in property in Bulgaria will find that some airports have revised their support schemes, but prices will remain stable at most hubs, the expert concludes.
New statistics released by aviation data business OAG reveal that year-on-year global frequency and capacity figures were down by five per cent and three per cent respectively last month, potentially providing more room for journeys to Bulgaria.
