Flying the blue flag in Cape Town SA
Holidaymakers flying to South Africa this year can look forward to well cared or beaches with the news that more South African beaches have been awarded Blue Flag Status.
The Blue Flag programme operates worldwide and is a well recognised rating given yearly to beaches that provide excellence in the matters of cleanliness, safety, environmental information, amenities and environmental management. So far more than 40 countres apply for Blue Flag status reulting in more than 4,000 beaches and marinas globally.
South Africa has been awarded 29 (ten more than last year), 7 of which can be found in Cape Town.
An officer with the Tourism dept delighted at the news believes having Blue Flag status increases the number of tourists visiting South Africa and benefits include higher residential property price for homes close to Blue Flag beaches.
