Holiday boost for northern England

Holiday boost for northern England

The north east of England enjoyed record numbers of holidaymakers this summer with many Britains opting to holiday throughout the UK.

Figures released by the National Trust show a huge rise in the number of visitors to the north east of England this summer. Properties and attractions owned by the Trust saw an extra 100,000 visitors more than in 2008 resulting in an extra five thousand new members. The top two attractions, both located near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, were Cragside and Willington Mansion.

The North East Tourist Board also reported that this year has been a record high for self catering holidays in the region.

It is encouraging to see that during the financial crisis we are experiencing growth in the tourist trade of our country. With more money going into local economies along with continued investment should produce a greater selection of places to visit in the UK
