Less than two hours drive from the St Malo ferry port, and you enter the western region of France known as the Vendee. The Vendee benefits from its own ‘micro - climate' with average hours of sunshine bettered only, perhaps, by the South of France. In the Vendee Nantes and La Rochelle airports both have several airport links with the U.K.  Roads are straight, generally quiet, and the railway network is second to none. According to statistics the Vendee is now the third most popular area in France, for people looking to re-locate.
		The Vendee has something for everyone - gorgeous long, sandy beaches, with sailing, surfing, swimming, fishing. Horse and pony riding, go-karting, off-road biking, magnificent golf courses to enjoy out of season when the weather is still warm. Forest and woodland walks, where wild deer and boar, to name but two, abound. The Vendee has expanses of marshland, used largely for salt-mining and duck-breeding, but also attracting many lesser spotted (!) varieties of bird. Historical, crumbling chateaux and manoirs, many offering tours depicting life as it was.
In the Vendee there are quiet, unspoiled villages, with little more excitement than the purchase of the daily baguette and perhaps an exchange of gossip over an aperitif at the local Bar-Tabac. Towns of varying sizes, each with a story to tell, and usually at least one magnificent church dominating the main street. Wonderful pedestrianised shopping areas, ancient and modern. You will find a warm welcome from the Vendeeen people. They are the first to admit that they are among the most friendly you will have the pleasure to meet (although they could naturally be rather biased on this subject!)
