marseilleMarseille known in antiquity as Masalia, Massalia or Massilia is Greek word. It is the second largest city in France, after Paris, with a population of 850,636 recorded in January 2011 It is the 3rd-largest metropolitan area in France after Paris and Lyon, with a population of 1,720,941 at the January 2011 census. Marseille is the capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, as well as the capital of the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Its inhabitants are called Marseillais in French.Marseille was historically the most important trade center in the region and functioned as the main trade port of the French Empire. Marseille is France's largest city on the Mediterranean coast and largest commercial port.

The city is served by an international airport, Marseille Provence Airport, located in Marignane. The airport is the fifth busiest French airport.Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles is Marseille's main railway station operates to Aix-en-Provence, Briançon, Toulon, Avignon, Nice, Montpellier, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nantes, etc. There is a new long distance bus station joined  to the Gare Saint-Charles with destinations like Bouches-du-Rhône towns, including buses to Aix-en-Provence, Cassis, La Ciotat and Aubagne.

Marseille is connected by the Marseille Métro train system consisting of two lines Line 1 which is blue and Line 2 i.e red.
