About Oregon

Oregon  is a state in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. Its capital is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents.

The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.  Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554. Oregon's landscape is diverse, with a windswept Pacific coastline, volcano-studded Cascade Range, abundant waterfalls, dense evergreen forests, mixed forests, and deciduous forests at lower elevations, and high desert sprawling across much of its east all the way to the Great Basin.

Crater Lake

Crater Lake  is a caldera lake in the western United States, located in south-central Oregon.

Crater Lake is also known for the "Old Man of the Lake". It is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity.

Two islands are in Crater Lake; Wizard Island formed from a cinder cone that erupted after Crater Lake began to fill with water, and the smaller Phantom Ship has seven different trees living on it.

There are no rivers flowing into or out of the lake. The lake is the deepest in the United States, and the seventh or ninth deepest in the world, depending on whether average or maximum depth is measured. The waters of Crater Lake are some of the purest because of the absence of pollutants.

Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the 29th most populous city in the United States and the third most populous city in the Pacific Northwest region.

Portland has been recognized as one of the most environmentally conscious cities in the world, because of its public transportation networks and efficient land-use planning.

Portland has a climate marked by both warm, dry summers and wet, cool-to-chilly winter days. This climate is ideal for growing roses.

Portland has been known as the "City of Roses". Portland is often awarded "Greenest City in America" and "most green cities" designations. Popular Science awarded Portland the title of the Greenest City in America in 2008.

Salem  is the capital of the U.S. state of Oregon. Salem was founded in 1842, became the capital of the Oregon Territory in 1851, and was incorporated in 1857.

The State of Oregon is the largest public employer in the city, and Salem Health is the largest private employer.

The two leading candidates for the tallest building in Salem are Salem First United Methodist Church and the Capitol Center.

Salem is the state capital, it has a multitude of government agencies, departments, and boards housed in buildings with architectural designs ranging from the early 20th century to examples of state-of-the-art civil building design.

From May through October the Salem Saturday Market, located north of the Capitol, exhibits an emphasis on local products including crafts, baked goods, produce, meat, and other items.

The annual World Beat Festival, held in June, is sponsored by the nonprofit Salem Multicultural Institute.

The Bite of Salem, held in July at the Riverfront Park, is an event similar to others such as the Bite of Oregon in Portland.

The event consists of a weekend of local restaurants in Salem offering samples of their menus to patrons in a festival atmosphere, with live entertainment and benefiting local charities.
