My family, friends and I have been eating at Taverna Astrofegia for over 20 years. This much loved and frequented taverna is located close to the bus stop and taxi point and is accessible by car. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the village It has seating for up to 100 diners at tables for four, split between an enclosed covered area, (area A, with a real traditional Greek feeling), an elevated outside area (area B) and the tables by the pavement with sea views, (area C)
The taverna is approached down a quiet lane leading from the village bus stop. As you reach the taverna there is a line of Mulberry trees and an outside seating area for 20 covers, with sea and village views (area C)
Steps lead through an arch with double gate into the main seating area (area A, approx 10m x 4m) with 40 covers, overhead is a vine covered pergola. From here there are two entrances, one to the taverna kitchen and the second to the owner living accommodation.
A couple of steps lead up to a terrace (area B) with seating for a further 40 diners. There are sea and village views from some of these tables and there are many plants and shrubs in urns and pots. A pergola also shades this second area which can also be reached through a second arched gateway further down the taverna approach lane in area C.
Next to this terrace are the Taverna toilets.
The tiled kitchen (5.3 x 4.75m approx) is fully equipped with industrial extractor fan, ceiling fan and air conditioning unit, telephone and a cash till. It includes storage areas for crockery and utensils and a traditional food display unit.
An archway leads to the rear kitchen (4.75 x 2.4m approx), with fridges, freezers, washing machine and storage plus three large stainless steel sinks, There is a window and door to the side opening to a sitting area.
An arch from the secondary seating area (area B) leads to a large walled rear terrace (area D) which has previously been used as a bar area. Many years ago fashion shows, music concerts and weeding receptions were held hear. The covered bar is still available for use, with a seating area incorporating a plaka threshing circle which was used for the shows and as a dance floor. A Palm tree and large fig tree provided shade.
Also within area D is a store room.
Through an arch and down steps to the left of the bar area is a semi-circular area (area E) with magnificent sea views and a second large fig tree.
Again through an arch to the right of the bar area, (behind the owner’s accommodation) is another outside area (area F) This area contains the two water tanks (sternas), water pump and oil tank. Area F has fantastic sea views, a number of mature trees and could be used as a private garden or as an extension of the taverna.
It also has an access path to the lane.
All fixtures, fittings and equipment for the taverna are included in the sale.
