Le Jardin Holiday Cottage near Eymet
Sleeps 2 – 6

Les Osiers (the owners’ house) is a traditional Perigourdian farmhouse, complete with characteristic ancient pantiles, massive beams and thick stone walls, set in pretty gardens around a heated, floodlit swimming pool.
It lies close to a 12th century church (the bells do not ring!) in the tiny sleepy hamlet of Montguyard. It is surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers which fall away down the hillside towards a steep, thickly wooded valley. The view is truly stunning.
"Le Jardin" is a lovely, roomy, 3 bedroom gite.
The ground floor has a very large, open plan dining kitchen, fully equipped and including a washer and dishwasher.
There is a separate, comfortably furnished, lounge with a wood burner. The lounge leads directly to the sunny private garden with patio, barbeque and a "tonnelle" on the lawn to provide a shady area to escape to when it gets too hot.
A smaller, walled terrace is approached through the French doors leading from the dining room. This terrace overlooks the swimming pool and countryside beyond and is a great place to sit and watch the sun go down.
Bursting with French character, the cottage displays a wealth of wooden beams, golden stone and cool, tiled floors.
The master bedroom is on the ground floor leading off the lounge. It has a small en suite toilet and washbasin.
Stairs from the dining room/kitchen lead up to a galleried landing where there is a second double bedroom and a small twin room, ideal for children.
The spacious bathroom has a bath with shower over, a washbasin, WC and bidet.

To ensure guests in the early and late seasons can enjoy a swim in comfort, the swimming pool will be heated from mid May to the end of September.
Bed linen and towels are provided, but it is asked that you provide your own swimming towels.
A small welcome pack of essential groceries is provided. If you need more comprehensive shopping because of a late arrival please let us know. BBC tv/video/radio/hi-fi is provided.
The cottage is cleaned prior to your arrival and guests are asked to leave the cottage as they find it.
Children's equipment is available upon request e.g. cot, high chair, stair gate, car seat, toys etc.
Although secluded, Montguyard is by no means isolated; it is close enough to the main tourist sites for guests to visir them easily, yet remains a haven of rural calm to retreat to after a day in the busier tourist hotspots.
It lies roughly 3 km from the thriving medieval bastide town of Eymet, and 22km from Bergerac. The vibrant city of Bordeaux is about an hour away.
The Dordogne is steeped in history. In the middle ages, the English lived here under the rule of the Black Prince - something many of our French neighbours are surprisingly proud of!
Within easy reach there are superb chateaux, fortified towns crowning precipitous hills, prehistoric cave settlements lining the cliffs above the Vezere and, of course the gorgeous valley of the Dordogne itself, winding down from its wilder upper reaches to the great wine growing areas of Bordeaux.
Activities
The region is generally considered to be the gastronomic centre of France. There are excellent, inexpensive restaurants offering the famous specialities of the region.

Apart from the delicious food and sightseeing, there is also a large choice of activities available nearby - golf, canoeing and windsurfing, horse-riding and walking, rock climbing, gliding, fishing, or just lazing around soaking up the glorious French sun...of course there is always wine tasting.
Badminton, numerous board games and 2 mountain bikes are available on site.
Getting there
Several airlines operate into Bordeaux, and flights into Bergerac are available from Ryanair and Flybe flying from various destinations. Early booking of flights and car hire can be very cost effective when compared with ferry and driving costs, particularly for one week breaks.
The local market town of Eymet lies some 12 miles south of Bergerac. It is a 390 mile drive from Caen on good French roads, taking some 8 to 9 hours. From the more northern channel ports, e.g. Calais and Dunkirk it is a 530 mile drive, but using the Autoroute system you can still drive the distance in around 10 hours.
Eurostar operates from London to Bordeaux and there is a motorail service into Brive.
