The walled town of Sabbioneta is under continual cultural and tourist development. Renowned for its beauty, it plays host to 90,000 visitors each year. In 2008 it was awarded world heritage status by UNESCO, and well known stars of the world of entertainment and culture are frequent visitors to the town.

The area is also home to a number of important companies. The companies generate a lot of business for the restaurants and hotels of the area who have full occupancy rates especially during the week. Tourists predominate at the weekend. The area has just one 4 star hotel in Casalmaggiore.

The area is renowned for food and cuisine. Parma is now the new home of the EU food safety ministry which transferred from Brussels in 2006. Initial architecture studies have indicated that up to 40 rooms could be created plus a wellbeing centre. Although the external and historic aspect of the building would remain unchanged.
