Sandanski – The Area

The town of Sandanski is the most famous spa resort in Bulgaria with a lot of mineral springs, fresh unpolluted air and healthy climate. The town of Sandanski is located in South-West Bulgaria at an altitude of 224 m at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, along the Sandanska Bistritsa River.

The resort’s climate is indeed UNIQUE. The warmest point in Bulgaria, Sandanski has been compared to the French Riviera and the Adriatic Coast. Throughout the year local temperatures are higher than inland temperatures - the annual average being 14.7 °C.

Winters are mild and short, autumns - long and warm. Relative humidity is low (66%), there are over 2436 hours of sunshine a year and fogs are rare. Sandanski has the lowest annual rainfall in Bulgaria (127 litres per square metre).

Its location is very strategic – it’s very close to Greece (about 25 km.) and the Greek seaside, there is a highway to the capital of Bulgaria (Sofia) and respectively to Sofia airport (about 150 km.) and you would need only about 2 hours and a half to get there. It’s very close to towns like Petrich and Melnik which attract a lot of tourists and it’s also very close to Bansko which is presently the most visited Bulgarian ski resort. You could go skiing or enjoy swimming in one of the pools in the town or playing tennis.
