The property is set in the centre of a lovely village 25km from the main regional town Silistra and just 18km from the Danube River and some 16km from the Lake Srebarna Nature Reserve. Besides, there’s a big fish pond nearby for anglers to enjoy.
Tucked away in the far northeastern part of Тhe Bulgarian Dobrudja, the region of Silistra is dominated mostly by fertile flat plains along or near the Danube River. The port of Silistra has a couple of antiquities and two live attractions up its sleeve. Silistra’s Roman Tomb, a modestly sized and vaulted structure chiefly known for its paintings, dates back from the twilight phase of imperial rule over Durostorum, the XI Legion’s garrison, and the paintings were probably executed in the late-C3 or early-C4, during the reign of Theodosius I. Facing the low entrance are portraits of the interred couple, flanked by male and female retainers bringing them sumptuous objects as indication of their wealth and status, painted on the side walls. The ceiling is decorated with octagons and circles containing bird-figures, hunting scenes or plant motifs, while the owners’ portrait is surmounted by two peacocks and a bronze vase. Other finds associated with Durostorum, plus an Ethnographic Collection, are exhibited within the semi-circular bastion on the hill to the south of the town.
Unless you are driving, it’s not a bad idea to sink a glass of the local “kaisieva rakiya” (apricot spirit) before visit the nearby Lake Srebarna nature reserve. From a tower with viewing equipment visitors can observe what the C19 Magyar naturalist Felix Kaniz called “the Eldorado of wading birds”. Besides the 90 species breeding there, Lake Srebarna is also frequented by around 80 migratory species, particularly during the autumn when there’s a fair likelihood of being able to see pelicans. The area of 600ha was declared a wildfowl refuge in 1942 and established as a nature reserve in 1948. The site was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983, designated a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention in 1975 and internationally recognised as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in 1977.
This nice countryside house of 100sq.m is set in the middle of a vast yard of 2 000sq.m, and the house has 3 rooms and a corridor. The toilet is outside and there’s a septic tank. It is connected to electricity and water mains. A land line is not available, but it can be easily connected. There’s a garage and a basement of 20sq.m. The road leading to the property is asphalted. Like many other Bulgarian countryside houses, this property benefits from a summer kitchen and some farm sheds. The garden is planted with fine fruit trees and beautiful flowers.
