Gavalohori is a charming village on the Drapanos peninsula and is located in the Apokoronas region only 4 kilometres from Almirida Beach and 25kms from Chania and the airport. Gavalohori has many shops including two Cafenions and two tavernas, a pastry shop with cafe bar, bakery, three grocery stores, the village pre-school and a wonderful Folklore Museum. There are numerous Greek Orthodox churches in and around the village as well as old Venetian arches and wells, Roman tombs and an ancient olive oil factory. Many interesting walks exist around the village. A nice pleasant day can be spent just sitting outside one of Gavalohori cafenions or tavernas, listening to the locals discuss current affairs or playing the traditional 'tavli'.
