This picturesque Villa in Cavriglia was built in the 19th century as the summer residence of an aristocratic family. It was originally called "Fattoria Monastero" as its vineyards, which produced excellent Chianti wines, stretched as far as the Cavriglia Monastery.

The dwelling has the elegance and charm of the period and some of the rooms still retain the original frescos. It is pleasantly furnished with country style furniture of the period. There is also a small collection of photos taken by Marquis Giovanni Gargiolli who was an engineer and an inventor. He built one of the first cameras in Italy and in 1892 he was appointed director of the National Photographic Institute in Rome. A man of many interests, he was a friend of Guglielmo Marconi, the writer Carlo Lorenzini (alias Collodi, the author of Pinocchio), the composer Giacomo Puccini and the poet Giosuè Carducci. These famous people were occasionally guests at the house.

The residence is surrounded by 4.057 sq. m. of secluded garden with a garage and informal living-room with fireplace.

It is very close to the Cavriglia Natural Park and well placed to reach Siena (minutes 35), Florence (minutes 30) and Arezzo (minutes 30). The nearest airport is Peretola airport in Florence. From here you can get to the main railway station in Florence or the A1 Bologna-Rome motorway entering at junction Firenze Nord in the direction of Rome. The nearest railway stations are the one in S. Giovanni Valdarno and the one in Montevarchi. Both are only a few kilometres from Caviglia and bus services link them both to the main city and to smaller towns in the region.
