Hurghada

Hurghada is the second largest resort on the Red Sea Riviera. It was founded in the early 20th century and until a few years ago remained a small fishing village. It is now the foremost tourist resort of the Red Sea Coast and an international centre for aquatic sports, windsurfing, sailing, deep sea fishing, swimming, snorkelling and diving.

It is an established Egyptian town, with a new area south of the old town where a new tourist development is being established. New build restaurants, bars and hotels can be found along the 3km of seafront, with a 3km promenade.

Boasting 40km of choice seashore, the unique underwater gardens off shore are some of the finest in the world. The warm waters are ideal for many varieties of rare fish and beautiful coral reefs which may be observed through glass bottom boats. Hurghada also has a museum and aquarium with complete collections of flora and fauna of the Red Sea for those not wishing to get wet.

The climate is also good for golfing enthusiasts who will find the popular El Gouna golf course just a short drive away.

There are many activities to be enjoyed for those wishing to explore the surrounding areas and soak up the culture. Why not take one of the array of day trips on offer by safari and exlore the mountains by camel and jeep, or venture to the Roman remains situated at Gebel Abu Dukhon. There are a large amount of Islands nearby all offering a combination of diving, snorkelling, fishing or maybe just a relaxing swin in the crystal clear, blue waters of the Red Sea. Giftun Island 10km away offers day trips for snorkellers too, a fish BBQ and viewing of the Red Sea hidden treasures from a submarine.

Egypt has only two seasons. A mild winter from November to April and a hot summer from May to October. The only difference between the seasons are variations in daytime temperatures and changes in prevailing winds. Throughout the year Hurghada has a warm and dry desert climiate with a steady breeze. There can be traces of rainfall but it is known for years to go without any rainfall at all.
