Casa Della Loggia is situated in the 'Antico Borgo' - the historical centre of Calitri - a labrynth of pretty cobbled streets leading up to a piazza and an 11th century castle. *** Casa Della Loggia is in a pedestrian only street with free parking only a couple of minutes away and provides recently renovated (2008) two-bedroomed accommodation over two floors. It is entered through a semi-private verandah leading from an ancient arch. *** The front door opens into a large open plan living area from which you can look up to see the mezzanine floor and vaulted ceiling. The kitchen area contains storage cupboards, a fridge, washing machine and gas cooker. There is also a working fireplace. *** The living/dining area has a sofa, a double sofabed, a coffee table and dining table and chairs. There is also satellite TV and a DVD player. Bedlinen, towels, a hairdryer and iron are provided. *** These houses were built into the hillside and Casa Della Loggia has a grotto a grotto which helps to keep the house cool during the warm summer months, as does the large electric ceiling fan. *** The double bedroom is upstairs on the mezzanine floor, overlooking the living area below and, itself, directly below the vaulted ceiling, as is the passageway which leads to the door to the single bedroom. *** The single bedroom has french windows which open onto a small balcony which has the same stunning views as the verandah. The house sleeps a maximum of 4-5 people. *** Although smoking is not permitted inside the house, an ashtray is provided for those who wish to smoke on the verandah or upstairs balcony. *** There are many cafes and restaurants in Calitri. Eating out is cheap and the food is good. A single espresso in most cafes costs less than €1. *** There is an internet cafe at the top of the old town behind the post office. *** In the countryside of Irpinia and the adjacent Vulture, the area in which Calitri is located, there are numerous ancient villages high on the hills and mountains and ruins of old castles and cathedrals. *** Laceno, a ski resort is 45 kilometres from Calitri. *** This coastline is fairly easy to reach from Calitri and will take you between 1 and 2 hours to drive, depending where on the coast you go. Paestum or Salerno are probably the quickest to get to. You can pick up hydrofoils in Salerno which will take you along this beautiful stretch of coast to Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento or Capri. There are many other places to visit both in and around Calitri. The countryside is beautiful, hilly and green with many lakes, rivers and pretty towns. *** For more information, please go to www.casaloggia.co.uk or email: info@casaloggia.co.uk
