Amidst the green untainted Umbrian countryside, rises a small medieval hamlet, set like a jewel between Todi and Orvieto. On the main square of the village, from where you can enjoy an amazing view extending up to the temple of “Santa Maria della Consolazione” in Todi, there stands this majestic medieval building called CASTELPONZIO dating back to 1147/1149; its tower with battlement motifs overlooks with pride and vigilance the entire area until Corbara Lake.
CASTELPONZIO is surrounded by a wide park (6000 sq m) with centuries old trees, where you can find also the old stables, adjoining to the main building. The complex is composed by several constructions built in different periods and joined together. They have all been renovated throughout centuries and the final architectural design is very unusual and pleasant to see. The manor is in a sound structural state (walls, roof, floors and celings) though needing a full internal redecoration, as it is builder's finished.
The south side of CASTELPONZIO faces the main square of the hamlet, sheltered by a beautiful stone and brick wall. The building materials are mostly squared stones and bricks, with bent tiles on the roof. The complex is basically composed by: a. The tower on 3 floors. b. A building on 3 floors on the front side of the tower with direct access from the main square; c. A building on 3 floors plus garrets on the back side of the tower, connected with the previous ones; internal and external stairs connect the various buildings.
On the ground floor are the old cellars and storage areas - 16 rooms in total. On the first floor lie 24 rooms, once used as kitchens, lounges, bedrooms, bathrooms and now unfinished. On the second floor (22 rooms) were also located kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms. The third floor was also lived in, with 13 rooms in total. On the top floor is the tower with a roof terrace boasting a spectacular view.
Thanks to its great setting and to its historic importance, this complex is certainly suited for a hotel, restaurant, conference center, or a spa.
