A beautiful architect designed 2 bedroom house set on a 6,500 sq. m. plot in the area of Kokinokastro with spectacular panoramic views right over the south of the island and across to the sea on both sides.
The house and location are fantastic. The 6,500 square metre plot is fenced and protected by trees and bushes that gives it a considerable level of privacy.
The property is accessed through large secure wrought iron gates located on the plots lower level. A long illuminated driveway leads up to the house, which is situated at almost the highest point on the land.
Access to the house is through an imposing front door with covered porch. The door leads into the spacious open plan living room.
This room is approx 7.3m x 6m including the stairwell and kitchen area. It has an Alonissos style wooden beamed ceiling and tiled floor. There are windows to front, side and rear together with doors leading to the front terrace. There is a feature fireplace with a wood burning stove.
All windows and shutters in this house are of high quality with built in “pull down” fly screens. There is a burglar alarm system.
The room is presently divided into four “spaces”; a sitting area around the fireplace and adjacent to the terrace doors, a resting area with daybed, a dining area and the kitchen.
The kitchen is located to the front of the house and is fitted with wooden units. The electric cooker has an extractor hood and there is a fridge. The sink unit overlooks the terrace and the views.
The kitchen and living area are separated by dividers.
A cupboard has been used by the present owner to screen the stairs.
The guest bedroom/study is 2.9 x 2.8m and is opposite the stairs to the front of the house with windows to front and side.
The 2.45 x 2.33m bathroom is to the rear, and opposite the guest bedroom. This is a beautiful room, with free standing Victorian style bath and high quality sanitary units. Floor and ceiling are tiled and finished with pine dado rail and large mirror.
The wooden stairs lead up to the master bedroom that measures approx: 3.75 x 3.3m. max, again with Alonissos style ceiling. There are windows to three sides and doors to the front, first floor balcony.
The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room (2 x 1.6m plus shower cubicle) which is fitted to the same high standard and style as the bathroom and has a window to the side. There is a large enclosed shower cubicle and also a washing machine.
Doors from the master bedroom lead to the spacious upper balcony measuring approx: 4.5 x 2.5m. max, the 180 degree panoramic sea views are magnificent. The balcony floor is surfaced with stone (plaka) and has a covered pergola. Stairs lead down to the garden.
The large pergola covered ground floor terrace measures about 10 x 3m. There are spectacular panoramic views of the island and the sea to both east and west of the island. Here you can enjoy magnificent sunrises and sunsets. The terrace floor is Stone (plaka) and decorated with an assortment of pots and urns with plants and flowers. The terrace is elevated and plaka steps lead down to the garden.
The views from this property really have to be seen to be believed! The area of KOKINOKASTRO, meaning red castle, because of the red earth is also called "Turkish Watch", because in ancient times one was able to see over to Turkey from this location and see approaching pirate ships.
There is a shortage of building land on the island, now, and to find a plot in such a wonderful location is getting to be almost an impossibility..
In my opinion this has to be one of the best inland properties on Alonissos. The house has been built to a very high standard and has ample space for expansion if required. This property offers a rare opportunity to buy a very special holiday or retirement home.
This is the owner’s description of her beautiful Alonissos home:
Would you like to own a mountain side with 68 olive trees and almond trees on a Greek island, overlooking 180° of glistening Aegean sea and old, silvery shimmering olive trees. It's an idyllic, unique location. Times stand still when shepherds lead their herds of goats and sheep up the mountain paths – interrupting for an instant the blissful rural silence. Rare birds are nesting in the pine trees and the garden is filled with healing herbs. The perfect home for a retreat. A writer who will enjoy uninterrupted calmness to finish the latest novel, a family with children that will enjoy the 5 minute ride to one of the many different beaches; or the perfect setting for a honeymoon sunset. The property is fenced in and also protected by trees and bushes. An illuminated driveway leads up to the house after passing through an old style, secure iron gate.
