Vacation Rental Information - Holiday Accommodation |
Vacation Rental versus Package Holiday One of the benefits of renting a vacation rental instead of a packaged holiday are that you can plan precisely the vacation you want in terms of the accommodation which best suits you, the dates you travel, the flights you book, etc. In many cases the properties are advertised by the owners themselves and they can offer invaluable local information and advice.
Choosing your Vacation Rental Many of these criteria are obvious such as number of bedrooms, proximity to particular sites (beach, city centre, etc.) but some others are often overlooked. These might include transport services (trains, buses, hire car, etc.), shopping facilities (food shops, pharmacy, etc), indoor facilities/attractions to use in case of bad weather, cost of living in the area, safety issues (check your own country's foreign office website for information/advice). Personal recommendation from friends/family can be invaluable in choosing your vacation rental. |

Booking
- Hotels, Guesthouses, B & B - your credit card details may be required to secure the booking. Generally speaking, in these cases, no payment is taken until you complete your stay. Booking can usually be done through a website or via email but some renters may require you to fax or post a completed booking form
- Houses, Villas, Apartments, etc - a deposit at the time of booking is often required to secure the dates required. The balance may also be required prior to your arrival at the property. Booking can usually been done simply through a website or via email but some renters may require you to fax or post a completed booking form
Payment
- Hotels, Guesthouses, B & B - In most cases payment is made when you checkout. The method of payment accepted varies but usually includes the major international credit cards
- Houses, Villas, Apartments, etc - As these are usually rented direct from the owner payment by credit card is not often available. Payment is almost always required prior to arrival. Options include cheque, bank transfer, PayPal, cash (by registered post) Western Union, etc
During Your Stay
- Hotels, Guesthouses, B & B - As these types of accommodation have staff on the premises you can direct any questions or problems you have during your stay to them
- Houses, Villas, Apartments, etc - Any of the issues you might experience in your own home (power failure, water leaks, equipment malfunction, etc) can occur in your vacation rental so you need to ensure you have contact details for the owners, or their agents. In many cases they will provide comprehensive information for dealing with most eventualities. Other information such as Police, Fire Service, Medical Assistance would be useful.
